Second man charged after fatal crash between car and motorcycle - Greenacre

A second man has been charged over his alleged involvement in a fatal crash in Sydney’s south west last month.

About 7.55pm on Tuesday 28 May 2024, emergency services were called to the intersection of the Hume Highway and Worth Street, Greenacre, following reports of a crash between a car and motorcycle.

The rider and pillion passenger of the motorcycle – a 26-year-old man and 24-year-old woman – both died at the scene.

The driver of the car – a 25-year-old man – was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police believe the motorcycle was part of a convoy at the time of the crash.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit examined the crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

About 12.30pm today (Wednesday 12 June 2024), a 24-year old man was stopped on Edensor Park Road, Edensor Park while riding his motorbike were he was arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station.

He was charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous; dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous; and organise, promote or take part in race between vehicles – first offence.

The man was refused bail to appear before Fairfield Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 13 June 2024).

The first man, aged 31, was arrested at Bankstown Police Station about 4.30pm on Saturday 8 June 2024.

He was charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, and organise promote or take part in race between vehicles.

His case remains before the court.
