Sex Crimes Squad detectives charge Newport man with child abuse related offences - Strike Force Trawler

Sex Crimes Squad detectives have charged a man for allegedly possessing and sharing child abuse material under Strike Force Trawler.

Strike Force Trawler is an ongoing investigation by Sex Crimes Squad’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children facilitated through the internet and related telecommunications devices.

Following an interstate referral, about 6am today (Wednesday 12 June 2024), strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a Newport home, where they arrested a 33-year-old man.

During a search of the man’s home, police located and seized electronic devices.

The man was taken to Manly Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of use carriage service transmit/publish/promote child abuse, possess/control child abuse material - use carriage service and seven counts of fail to comply with reporting obligations.

He was refused bail to appear in Manly Local Court today (Wednesday 12 June 2024).

Investigations under Strike Force Trawler continue.
