Man charged with aggravated robbery - Bourke

A man has been charged following an investigation into an aggravated robbery in the state’s north-west.

About 12.15am on (Sunday 6 June 2024), a man attended a home on Short Street, Bourke, and allegedly demanded cash from a man known to him.

When the occupant of the home refused, the man allegedly threatened him with a knife before he complied and transferred funds to a bank account.

The occupant of the home was not injured.

Following inquiries, about 5.40am the same day, police attended a home on Hope Street, Bourke and arrested a 34-year-old man.

He was taken to Bourke Police Station, where he allegedly escaped police custody and was injured while jumping over a fence.

A short time later he was located in the rear yard of a business, where an ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital with ankle injuries.

About 10am yesterday (Monday 17 June 2024), he was transferred to Bourke Police Station and charged with:

• Robbery armed with offensive weapon
• Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period
• Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO, and
• Escape police custody.

Police also executed two outstanding arrest warrants for aggravated robbery and domestic violence-related offences.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Bourke Local Court yesterday (Monday 17 June 2024), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Thursday 22 August 2024.
