The coordinated multi-agency marine search for a Lake Macquarie man after a boat overturned at Swansea has been suspended.

About 7.50pm on Saturday 6 July 2024, emergency services were called to Channel Street, Swansea, following reports of multiple people in the water after a small boat overturned.

On arrival, officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District were told three men – aged 23, 23 and 20 – had been pulled from the water at Dobinson Drive, Swansea, with a 23-year-old man still missing.

An extensive multi-agency search for the missing man was conducted that night and continued during daylight hours on Sunday 7 July 2024, yesterday (Monday 8 July 2024), and today (Tuesday 9 July 2024).

The coordinated multi-agency marine search was suspended at 4pm today; however, Marine Area Command and Marine Rescue will continue conducting on-water patrols throughout the week, while officers from Lake Macquarie Police District will review the land search tomorrow morning (Wednesday 10 July 2024), with ongoing taskings continuing.

Detectives attached to Marine Area Command are continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
