A close associate is any person involved in a security business who can influence its conduct or operation due to their personal influence, company position or financial interest.
Applications for individual and corporation master licences must include any relevant close associates.
For individuals applying for a master licence, close associates include anyone in a position of power or financial influence over the business’s operations, including family members and friends linked to the business or its finance.
For corporations, close associates include:
- Company secretaries
- All directors and others in a position of power or financial influence over the business’s operations
- Directors, company secretaries and others in a position of power or financial influence over the business operations of any shareholding companies
Government agencies do not need to list any close associates. They are only required to name a nominated person.
A separate close associate nomination form must be completed by each close associate and all nomination forms must be submitted with the master licence application.
Close associates will be subject to probity checks as part of the Master licence application process.
SLED must be notified within 14 days of any changes relating to close associates, including new or departing directors of the corporation and shareholding companies or government agency.
